21 Nov 2011

The perfect day - awards ceremony for the kids and a Super Bowl Victory...here are some random thoughts on the day:

Katshir is Some Kind Of Catcher
Earlier in the day, Katshir was recognized as the 2011 CFA Pony Offensive Player Of The Year. If anyone doubted the truth in his selection, they were silenced by an awesome display of offensive (and defensive) skills in the Super Bowl. Katshir scored the team's two TD's; he made several key grabs; and when the team needed a first down, yep, he found a way to get it. His "play of the day" may have been when he deftly knocked down a York pass, late in the game, on 4th down, which ended the Bears last scoring opportunity deep in Rams territory.

"OMG! He's Wide Open!"
Just when you think you know a kid, he surprises you. Buffington has been the Pony's bruising RB for two years. He's certainly quick, but more of a powerful, pounding runner. In the Super Bowl, he was just not able to get to the outside against the very speedy York defense. Then he makes the "Play of The Day" -- The offense rolled left. Buffington sprinted right, and down the home sideline. He was wide open. Morris calmly turned right, set his feet and launched a strike, hitting Buff in full stride at the 30. He would make it to the 2, before being pulled down from behind. The crowd went wild!

Neely's Turn
An ankle injury sidelined the Rams Pony RB/LB Neely in the semi-final game last week. But he would save the day with a 4th down tackle late in 4th quarter to lock the Rams victory!

"Kuntz, C'mon!"
During the game, Coach Eichelberger was really interested in Kuntz's play, and he was nice enough to constantly keep reminding him about how he was playing. What a thoughtful coach! The tall, easy-going WR took in all in stride and played a much better 2nd half with several tackles and a key catch-and-run late in the game for a first down.

Unsung Heros
Caution! Men At Work! The Defensive and Offensive front linemen and ends slugged away all day at a hard-hitting York front five. You can't say enough about Blaine, Lamprey, Kuntz, LaPorta, Myers, Bodle, Welfer, Perry and Bixler.

Dynamite Comes In Small Packages
Special recognition has to go out to four whirling dynamos who played their guts out Sunday. They are, pound-for-pound, as tough as anyone on the field: Pentz, Spurlock and Ibraheem - thanks for having the hearts of champions!

Morris Selected as Super Bowl Game Most Valuable Player
Morris was selected as Super Bowl MVP. The fleet-footed blonde QB connected with Katshir for the Rams' two touchdowns. He also threw a laser shot to streaking RB Buffington late in the game for a key 50-yard play that would set up the winning score.

God Loves The JV Players
On several occasions, the GS Pony Staff commented on and thanked the JV players who worked out with the varsity the last two weeks. Without these dedicated players, who yes, at times are "practice dummies", the varsity victory would simply not be possible. It was a Championship win for all the Pony players who suited up, not just those who played in the final game.
